UK electric vehicle charging operator InstaVolt has agreed to acquire 228 GeniePoint charging locations from infrastructure services company Equans, further strengthening its position in the country’s rapidly consolidating public charging market.
The acquisition will increase InstaVolt’s network to more than 1,000 locations nationwide and adds over 260 existing charging points to its portfolio. As part of the integration, the company plans to expand the acquired sites to more than 400 ultra-rapid chargers, significantly increasing charging capacity.
InstaVolt also announced a comprehensive upgrade programme for the newly acquired locations. Planned improvements include enhanced grid connections, the installation of battery energy storage systems, upgraded site signage and the deployment of BYD ultra-rapid charging technology to improve charging performance and reliability.
The deal reflects a broader trend of consolidation across the UK’s EV charging sector. As electric vehicle adoption accelerates, larger operators are increasingly acquiring smaller charging networks to expand coverage, improve operational efficiency and achieve greater economies of scale.
According to a recent Zap-Map customer satisfaction survey, InstaVolt ranked among the UK’s highest-rated public charging networks despite operating one of the country’s largest infrastructures. The company now manages more than 1,000 sites, a considerably larger estate than many competitors.
Chief Executive Officer Delvin Lane described the acquisition as an important step in the company’s growth strategy, noting that the UK’s expanding electric vehicle fleet requires a reliable and rapidly growing charging network.
With more than two million electric vehicles now on UK roads, demand for dependable public charging infrastructure continues to rise. InstaVolt says the investment will help ensure drivers have access to faster, more reliable charging in strategically located sites across the country.
